There are several obstacles that contribute to the homeless animal population. The problem is vast, and currently our resources are small... but with your help, we are doing everything we can to change the lives of homeless animals for the better.
Here are some of our solutions:
Education
We hope to dispel ignorance and encourage learning about animals through the distribution of educational materials such as flyers, pamphlets, and videos. We also offer free one-on-one and group sessions hosted by animal experts, featuring specific topics such as trapping, grooming, and health. For more information, please email educate@operationpaw.com.
Spay/Neuter
Spaying/neutering is one of the most important steps toward reaching our goal of preventing animal overpopulation and becoming a no-kill community. We will conduct TNR in different locations where the need seems to be most urgent, and we will attempt to respond to TNR requests sent via our TNR Request Form. Because we are a small group of volunteers and the number of cats needing to be spayed or neutered is so great, we need ALL the help we can get. If you are interested in being a trapper or a transporter, please contact volunteer@operationpaw.com today.
Adoption
In our efforts to spay and neuter stray and feral cats, we may come across a cat or kitten that is particularly friendly and adoptable. In this case, the cat will be moved into one of our foster homes, where he or she will receive extra socialization and learn how to live in a home. Once the cat is deemed well-mannered enough indoors to move into a forever home, the cat will be placed for adoption. Please visit our Adoption page to view cats that are currently up for adoption, or fill out an Adoption Application Form if you already know who you are interested in adopting. If you would like to schedule a meet-and-greet with any of our cats, please contact adopt@operationpaw.com.
Socialization
Some cats are friendly, but need a little extra work before moving on to their forever homes. They may be especially shy, or they may have a tendency to bite a little too hard while playing. Maybe they have a problem with other cats, or a fear of loud noises. Whatever the reason, these cats need additional attention before they can be adopted, but we have recognized that they do have the potential to be loving indoor companions. These cats will move into a foster home specializing in socialization, and will be placed for adoption once they are ready. If you are interested in becoming a socialization foster, please email foster@operationpaw.com .
Behavior Modification
Many cats are abandoned at kill shelters (or tossed into the street to fend for themselves) due to behaviors that do not go over well in a household environment. Through behavior modification programs, we hope to decrease instances of abandonment. We offer counseling, classes, and hands-on approaches for individuals who are struggling with the behaviors of their feline companions. For more information, please contact info@operationpaw.com .
Rehabilitation
Many cats have gone to extraordinary lengths simply to survive. These cats are sick, injured, and possibly even abused. They need medical and psychological attention... and they may need to learn to trust again. These cats are turned over to either medical or socialization fosters depending on their unique needs. They will be cared for until they are either adoptable or healthy enough to be returned to where they were trapped.
Abandonment Prevention Initiatives
Through counseling, behavior modification programs, and education, we hope to prevent unnecessary abandonment of animals. There are numerous reasons why people choose to abandon their pets, and many of these reasons can be remedied given the appropriate methods. If you are considering abandoning your pet, please contact us to discuss alternative solutions. Your pet is a member of your family, and if you love him, you will give him every chance at keeping his place in your hearts and homes. Contact us today at info@operationpaw.com .
